Strange green lights

A sunny day in December

December 26 was warm. 12 degrees spread an aura of spring. I had expected snow to cover our hiking path in the Harz mountains. Instead there was a sun that made you long for the sunglasses you had no reason to wear for weeks and therefore forgot.

Later clouds fell over the mountaintops dramatically, locking the sun out. Looking through the windows of the car, the landscape was dipped into the strangest colour. Dark tones close to the road and dark tones on the horizon were separated by a gleaming beam of light. Here a narrow strip of land shone in the brightest green. Green, a colour almost forgotten in December.
